Auditions for Lead Parts Held

Tryouts for lead parts in The Passenger were held on 12 June 2015. The auditions were judged by the opera producers Thaddeus Strassberger and Oliver von Dohnányi.

The part of Marta (soprano) will be performed by Elena Dementieva, Natalia Karlova and Victoria Novikova.

Nadezhda Babintseva, Kseniya Kovalevskaya and Nadezhda Ryzhenkova will appear as Liese, SS overseer (mezzo-soprano).

Yuri Devin, Aleksander Kulga, Aleksei Mironov and Dmitri Starodubov will appear as Tadeusz, Marta’s fiancé (baritone).

The part of diplomat Walter (tenor) will be performed by Ilgam Valiev, Evgeny Kryukov and Vladimir Cheberyak

Other performers will be named later.

Decision on Staging Moisey Weinberg’s opera The Passenger Taken

In spring 2015 the Ekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre took a decision on the Russian stage premiere of Moisey Weinberg’s opera The Passenger.

The Russian stage premiere is scheduled for September 15, 2016 and will open the 105th jubilee season of the Opera.

“Moisey Weinberg. The Passenger. Russian stage premiere” is a unique project for the Russian musical theater. It was launched a year and a half before the premiere, in the days of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The uniqueness of the project is not only in the fact of the Russian stage premiere of the opera The Passenger, but also in an enormous preproduction campaign widely covered actually online on the websites of the Opera and of Muzykalnoye obozrenie national newspaper, in Russian and Polish media.

The opera premiered at the Ekaterinburg Opera in September 2016 will become both the result and the culmination of this work and at the same time it will mark the beginning of a new stage in the life of Russian opera, in our approach to the artistic heritage of Moisey Weinberg, whose 100th birthday will be celebrated very soon, in 2019.

The project has a huge information and artistic value, enjoys a high international status and is carried out in close collaboration with the Adam Mickiewicz Institute in Warsaw.
